Ensure students with diverse backgrounds have aid
Ohio State Newark is proud to be the most diverse campus of The Ohio State University. Approximately 34% of our students are racial or ethnic minorities, and our students represent 39 different countries of origin.
Diverse college campuses offer more worldviews for students to consider and engage with. College students can learn from peers with different perspectives shaped by a variety of experiences, and the interaction between students with different worldviews can help change minds and shape ideas.
Despite the vast benefits of college campus diversity, national data continues to show racial gaps in student persistence, retention, and graduation. Ohio State Newark is committed to closing the educational achievement gap among students of underrepresented ethnic and racial groups.

In 2018, The Ohio State Newark developed a new Diversity and Inclusion Plan, working closely with all campus constituents including the institution’s Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Council. One of the priorities of the plan is to continue to increase the diversity of our students and ensure that students of color achieve success metrics consistent with their counterparts.
Initiatives involving learning communities, faculty mentoring, first-year programming have been successful in increasing retention and graduation rates, but we continue to explore other opportunities to positively impact Ohio State Newark’s students of color.
Last year, the senseless killings of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor inspired all of us to be even more proactive in addressing racial injustice. To further support students of color, Ohio State Newark established The Ohio State Newark Diversity Scholarship.
At Ohio State Newark, we remain committed to helping students of color overcome barriers throughout their educational journey. With your help, we can ensure that students with diverse cultural, ethnic and racial backgrounds have one less worry when it comes to paying for college.
