Make an Ohio State education more affordable for students
At The Ohio State University, affordability is a keystone of our strategic plan. Ohio State students spend an average of $1,234 on textbooks each school year and students who struggle with these costs often delay or avoid purchasing books.
Textbook and course material fees can add up quickly for college students, and at University Libraries, we help them save millions of dollars each year on these fees.
The Affordable Learning Exchange is a university-wide partnership aimed at bridging the affordability gap by reducing or eliminating textbook and classroom material costs. As a part of this, University Libraries is transforming the way students access learning materials. Our subject librarians and copyright expertise contribute to a program that has saved students nearly $10 million so far.
You can give to the University Libraries Affordability Initiative to support innovative means of lowering the cost of education. A generous donor has pledged $15,000 in matching challenge funds during the Day of Giving, so your gift could have double the impact!
To advance this critical work, we are seeking philanthropic support to support a new position at University Libraries dedicated to increasing affordable course materials in Ohio State's classrooms. Donor support will propel us forward in this area, allowing us to empower a professional to fully dedicate their educational resource knowledge and creativity to enhance affordability at our university.
