We have an incredibly unique and amazing LGBTQ collection at The Ohio State University Libraries. We want to create a permanent endowment so that there will always be a fund designated to collect more LGBTQ material for Ohio State students, scholars from around the world and the public.
The Ohio State University Libraries’ Special Collections are made up of thousands of one-of-a-kind objects. We take pride in connecting students, researchers and scholars with these extraordinary pieces of history.
Brett Shingledecker, co-owner of Chicago’s first LGBTQ bookstore, spent more than three decades collecting materials that ranged from Gay Pride celebration posters to LGBTQ zines. Now a part of University Libraries, classes from across Ohio State’s campus actively engage with the collection – an invaluable source of primary research material related to LGBTQ causes and community. We want to create a permanent endowment fund that allows us to grow that collection and develop programming that advances LGBTQ voices and stories.
