My main goal in life has always been to represent and serve my community in a positive way. I’m from Newark, Ohio, born and raised, and it is something I take great pride in. This town has given my family and me so much, and I want nothing more than to be able to give back. This is the main reason why I decided to stay home and attend The Ohio State University at Newark and pursue a degree in Middle Childhood Education.
The two strongest influences in my life have been family and education. Education is something that I have never taken lightly, as I believe it is the greatest equalizer in life. I have also had the best teachers anyone could ever ask for, my mom (who has a master's in education degree) and dad. Education provides everyone with a unique opportunity to change the entire trajectory of their family’s life, and that is exactly what education has done for me.
Because of all my great experiences, I knew from an early age that I wanted to become a teacher. I enjoyed my time in school so much that I couldn’t imagine a life without being in education in some capacity.
If it wasn't for all of the generous scholarship donors here at The Ohio State University, I truly believe I would not be in the position that I am today.
And if it wasn't for all of the generous people who are a part of the Ohio State family, I would not be able to chase my dreams as comfortably as I have been able to over the past two years. I look forward to giving back to my students one day, and instilling the lifelong love of learning that has meant so much to me and my family.
I accept these awards with great pride and honor and it is something that I do not take lightly. People in education truly change lives and I hope to someday be an educator myself so that I can do the same.
