Buckeye Nation rallies to fund grants for alumni facing financial hardship.
Featured Fund for Day of Giving
Funded solely through contributions from alumni and friends, the Buckeyes Helping Buckeyes program awards up to $1,000 to Ohio State alumni needing financial assistance.
Why Your Gift Matters
“You can never pay back, so you should always try to pay forward.” – Coach Woody Hayes
As Ohio State alumni, we take great pride in our alma mater. Because we share this special bond – and because “paying forward” is a beloved Buckeye tradition – when we see a Buckeye in need, we rush to help. Your donation could help an alum facing various financial hardships including:
- Damage or loss to personal property or primary residence due to natural disaster
- A critical illness or diagnosis of a disabling or chronic disease
- Unexpected job loss
- Other unique personal or family hardships
Impact in Action
Since January 2021, the program has awarded over $80,000 to alumni in need. Among those recipients is Sue Wasserman ’84, whose home and car were severely damaged by a fallen oak tree during Hurricane Helene. Because of Buckeyes Helping Buckeyes, Sue was able to use $1,000 to put towards a replacement car. In her own words:
“I’m so grateful – for the money that helped fund the car, but also that people realized I was hurting and wanted to help. It truly touched me.”

About Buckeyes Helping Buckeyes
Buckeyes Helping Buckeyes grants are intended to provide support for individual Ohio State alumni experiencing a personal financial setback. Individual alumni may apply for a grant, and should the individual be unable to make their own submission, an immediate family member may submit on their behalf. Approval of grant submissions are at the discretion of the President and CEO of the Alumni Association. Because this program is funded solely by alumni and friends, the availability of grant dollars may vary.
